Now i have grinded and polished the black away and started
to make the handle and
scabbard.
As the blade didn't turn out to be that great I wont lay as much
time in the rest.
The cutting edge angel is to low, probably under 20 degree, so its very easily damaged
so i have to make a double edge, even if a katana shouldn't have one.
But this is a katana al 'a Johan :)
Its a little cheating when gluing it like I have, but again I don't want to waste a lot of time on it
I want to make a new one :))
Ok enough babbling, here is the pics
After some forum support I have come to understand that
the bend probably disappeared because of :
1: I cold hammered it
2: I did not normalize it
3: I grinded away the most of what kept it bent.
You learn a lot of things when making a sword :)
I did one more mistake (as i know of :)), I should have grinded it with only coarse
belts before the hardening, and started with a coarse belt after.
I started with a fine belt after the hardening, and for that reason it was almost impossible
to
remove all of the black on the blade, that's why there is some left, i don't want to
start all over again with the grinding.
Here are the final pics :
Now, its time for a new project :)
